HANDS team being introduced to the local community
In 2006 after its inception, HANDS carried our extensive awareness programs in a number of schools and rural areas in Kalimpong. In the many rural awareness programs, HANDS carried out a well attended awareness camp at Chibo busty (village). OHP slides were shown and the scourge of HIV and drugs explained to approximately 50-60 persons from the village. Personal Testimonies of former chemically dependent persons have always been a very effective way in giving fist hard information o0n the horrors of drug abuse.

Representatives of various N.G.O’s at the meeting
As there are many NGOs operating in Kalimpong on similar aims and objectives like drug abuse and HIV/AIDS, often there is duplication of tasks on frequent intervals. In order to avoid these kinds of activity clashes and more over have a unanimous action plan, HANDS organized a meeting of Local, National and International NGOs operating in and around Kalimpong at Park Hotel, Kalimpong. Eight other NGOs attended the meeting and briefed each other on their activities.
World AIDS Day 1st December 2006

To celebrate World AIDS Day which is on 1st December, HANDS had organized series of events, which included Awareness Bike Rallies, Street Plays and Mass Awareness programs on local Medias, details are as follows:
a) We had tied up with the Royal Enfield Bullet Club, a local registered motorcycle club, who has been actively, involved in various tasks like disaster management, various society uplifting campaign and large awareness rallies in the region, for a joint rally. The rally was flagged off from the Town Hall by Mr. C. K. Kumai, Chairman of the Kalimpong Municipality. About 20 bikers with banners of their own club and that of HANDS made a slow tour of Kalimpong town. During this tour, and throughout the day, leaflets on HIV/AIDS were distributed both by HANDS and the motorcycle club.
b) HANDS members also actively took part in fund rising through much of the day.
c) In the afternoon, HANDS Organized and sponsored a 40 minute street play by MK’s Mini Theatre Group, on the Horrors of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, which was held in front of the Ram Krishan Rangmanch(Kalimpong Town Hall)
d) In the evening, HANDS broadcasted an exclusive program of one hour on local TV channels. This program consisted of awareness and facts of Drug Abuse & HIV/AIDS along with an online question session from the public, was headed by the chairperson Mrs.S.Mukhia together with HANDS member Doctor Dr Sanjay Zimba and Mrs Zoramhmangaihi, Coordinator.
